Robert Bennet at the Buda Library
The Buda Library will host an afternoon with award winning author Robert Bennet on Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. Bennett will give a talk about what it’s like to become a writer, what actual writing life is like and will sign his books including the new Locus Award nominated book City of Stairs. Refreshments and fun presented by Friends of the Buda Library. Admission is free.
Blessing of the pets

Concerts for a Cause
Down South Railhouse in Kyle will host this season’s Concerts for a Cause. The concert will be held Oct. 3 from 5-8 p.m, feature music by Keith Kelso and benefit Hays-Caldwell Women’s Shelter. Concerts for a Cause raises awareness and money for some of the local Hays County charities that work to make this “simply charming” county an even better place to live.
Yakona Live
On Oct. 6, take the opportunity to see Yakona with a live orchestra playing the score for the movie. This award-winning movie tells the story of the San Marcos River. The screening will be held at Alkek Teaching Theatre at Texas State University at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the university, and is free and open to the public.
Kyle Fair and Music Fest
The Kyle Fair and Music Fest will be held Oct. 8-10 at Central Texas Speedway in Kyle. Enjoy $1 carnival rides and go-karting on Thursday’s preview night. Vendors and live music begin Friday. Hootenanny on the Hill
Plum Creek HOA presents the annual Hootenanny on the Hill – a fall festival for the whole family, including your pets. Come out for a day of fun, including 10k, 5k, 3k, and 1k fun run, hay bale critters, a family carnival, and local vendors. The event is Saturday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Haupt Park and Fairway Fields (450 Haupt in Kyle, Texas).
Starlight Symphony Orchestra
On Saturday, Oct. 10, the Starlight Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Hays PAC at 7 p.m. This benefit concert pays tribute to “Our Circles:” family, friends, community, work, etc. This concert is entitled “Community – Wimberley Strong.” Concerts are free and open to the public.
Sacred Springs Powwow
This year’s Sacred Springs Powwow will be from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment (201 San Marcos Springs Drive). Events include a traditional Native blessing on the shores of the Sacred Springs, a new Native Culture Tent with storytellers, music, native dancers and more.
