The first major revision to the Buda unified development code (UDC), which began August 2014, is scheduled to be completed this January.
Buda’s rewrite is the first major revision to its UDC since it was initially adopted in 2002.
The UDC is a document that governs any development to a piece of property; it includes policies on zoning and permits as well as developing procedures for the city.
Buda Mayor Todd Ruge said that the information compiled by surveys issued to the community suggested that many people hope to maintain the small town charm of Buda, even though the city is in such close proximity to the rapidly expanding city of Austin.
Ruge said that the way that the community wants to progress has become clear, and the UDC is the city’s best response.
According to Ruge, these changes to the Unified Development Code will not only be a step forward in making sure Buda keeps its small town feel, but the guide for the next 15 years of development.
Although the UDC is still a work in progress, Ruge said the official review and adoption of the completed code will be a long-term solution to the wants and needs of Buda.
