Three local students represented Hays CISD at the recent Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Central Texas Area state seminar. These students were selected by administrators at their high school, for their outstanding leadership skills, and service to the community. They spent June 12-14 at the University of Texas at Austin where they participated in leadership development programs and activities, service projects. They also heard from motivational speakers. Also adding to the experience were representatives from the central Texas and south Texas, many traveling up to five hours to attend.
Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership, called HOBY was founded by actor Hugh O’Brian in 1958 after returning home from a humanitarian mission in Africa. O’Brian created HOBY to inspire the youth to lead and serve in their communities. Today HOBY has seminars in all 50 states with 10,000 high school sophomores and 4,000 volunteers participating annually. HOBY has more than 375,000 alumni all over the world.
