Buda Library short story contest deadline May 22


Are you a budding writer? Or maybe just have a short story to tell? The Friends of the Buda Library is holding its fourth annual short story writing contest, which is a fundraiser for the organization. Open to non-professional writers age 17 and up, the contest entries will be judged by local writers, community leaders and librarians based on the quality of the writing, creativity, originality and story. Deadline is 5 p.m. May 22. Winners will be announced in June. The Friends of the Buda Library will award $200 for the first place story, $100 for the second place, and $50 for the third place. ‘Healthy Habits For Healthy Aging’ class in Kyle


The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a class on the topic of “Healthy Habits for Healthy Aging”. The class will present some of the latest research on how our lifestyle choices affect our brain health. Learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement and use hands-on tools to help incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging. Takes place at 11:30 a.m. May 22, at the Kyle Community Room at 408 Blanco St. This event is free but registration is required.
