FM 967 project takes shape

Staff Report

Hays County continues its upgrade of the widening of FM 967, which is expected to be completed roughly by the first of 2016.

Last week Capital Excavation, the construction company doing the roadway, graded ditches from Elm Grove to FM 1626 and near St. Elizabeth’s Church.

In addition, Capital poured the pedestrian rail on the south side of the road near FM 1626, and excavated a sidewalk placement near White Knight Pest Control.

Hays County Precinct No. 2 Executive Assistant Jennifer Scott said the FM 967 widening project is going well. Scott said the county has met with TxDOT and Capital Excavation to go over where they are in relation to the project.

Scott said crews have done a “bit of paving out there.” She added there are some things that need to be worked out with drainage, but they are working at a good pace.

“When people see pavement, we’re moving fast. Paving has been good. The contractor has been excellent,” Scott said. “It’s moving at a pretty good pace for us.”

Capital will begin constructing concrete driveways throughout the project.

Capital will continue full-depth pavement repair from FM 1626 to Elm Grove.

Capital will remove existing metal guard rail at the curve and begin forming concrete sidewalk in this area.

Capital will place topsoil in areas behind recently placed sidewalk.

Capital will maintain traffic control and erosion control devices throughout the project corridor.
