Bowie blasts Lehman 52-7

by Kyle Lehnick

Due to District 14-6A’s large size of nine teams, the Lehman Lobos began district play Friday as they hosted the Bowie Bulldogs at Shelton Stadium.

But Bowie proved too much for Lehman as the Bulldogs claimed a 52-7 win.

After preliminary rain soaked the field, play began as scheduled.

Bowie successfully ran the ball with two different running backs – Dee Threadgill and Quirin Laracuente. Both players traded carries with Laracuente getting the lion’s share.

The Bulldogs ran option and draw plays, including a few passes from quarterback Brandon Ramos. The Bulldogs rammed in a one-yard touchdown for the game’s first score.

After an interception by Lobo quarterback Jacob Zamora, the defense stepped up and ripped the ball from Ramos on a quarterback scramble. Lehman’s Carlos Villarreal picked it up and ran 65-yards to score the sole Lobos touchdown of the game.

From there, it was an exhibition of Bowie’s balanced offense. Ramos threw three touchdown passes, while the running backs amassed four scores, including an 80-yard touchdown run to start the second half.

With a 49-7 lead, the Bulldogs pumped the brakes, while Lehman picked up a few first downs running quarterback draws.

Bowie kicked a 22 yard field goal with 6:27 remaining in the third quarter where the score settled at 52-7.
