The Hays Rebels opened up 14-6A play Friday with a visit to Cavalier Stadium to face the powerhouse Lake Travis Cavaliers.
But it was all Lake Travis from start to finish as the Cavaliers defeated Hays 49-13.
Lake Travis sped out to a quick lead as Cavalier quarterback Charlie Brewer threw two first quarter touchdowns to Cade Brewer. The second of the two came on a double reverse pass to make it 21-0.
The Cavs also returned two punts back for touchdowns and blocked a punt in the first quarter.
The Rebels had one highlight in the first half when quarterback Braeden Kent hit Brandon Hunter for a 69-yard touchdown pass.
But the score was overshadowed by an injury Kent suffered when he hit in the knee as he threw the pass. Kent did not return to the game. The severity of Kent’s injury is unknown at this time.
Brewer threw one more touchdown pass in the first half and the Cavs went into the locker room with a 49-7 lead.
The Rebels added a late touchdown run from third-string quarterback Cody Reiley, but Hays was unable to battle all the way back against a talented Lake Travis team.
Reiley’s touchdown was the only score of the second half.
