Hays County Commissioners Court authorized Development Services staff to streamline the application process for victims of the recent flood. The move will help better serve the victims of high winds, tornadoes, storms and floods in the unincorporated area of Hays County, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the county.
Commissioners authorized staff to waive Hays County development fees and applicants will not be required to submit proof that property taxes have been paid, as normally required in the application process. If the affected property parcel is not compliant with the county development regulations it will not have to be brought into compliance in order to obtain the permit.
Staff will be visiting affected areas and speaking directly with affected citizens to explain the permit process. The vast majority of permits will be issued to citizens on site. In the event substantial damage occurred to structures on the property, citizens will have to go through a more in-depth permit process but still under the requirements adopted by Commissioners Court on May 29.
