NOTE: Last week’s Montage had a one-hundred year typo. The published newspaper clipping was actually dated 1913.
A fabulous tidbit arrived from Wally Rudzinski who lives towards the end of Poplar.
“Just wanted to let our neighbors know that we have returned from a 6 month stay in Southern Spain. Cathy, Stephanie and Wally lived in a small pueblo named Cartama on the Costa del Sol. It was a great adventure, and we were sad to leave, but we are also happy to be home.”
After you return from a trip, rather than before or during, is a fabulous time to send a trip tidbit. And, avoid words on Facebook that might alert criminals.
Judge Beth Smith frequently emails safety tips. Not on her list? Send your request to Beth Smith .
You need not leave Mountain City for a great adventure.
Our annual 4th of July parade and lawnmower race was spectacular. A Kyle Fire Department / ESD #5 fire truck led the big parade, with the “Smith twins” in a golf cart close behind.
Judge Beth’s twins might make you think you’re seeing double. Crystal Smith Dixon now resides here. Her sister, Tiffany Curnutt, is our mayor. Our mayor’s husband, John, won the lawn mower race.
Did you miss it? Mark your calendar for Monday, July 4, 2016. 10 a.m.

If you have scorpions, purchase a little black light flashlight from Walmart for less than $8. In the Buda store, we found four red-vested employees who did not know where to find it. The black light is located on the top shelf in the insecticide aisle near the garden section.
Within a few days, our houseguest called out from the hallway, “Scorpion!” (as baby Emma crawled a few feet away.) Time it was for adventure. Yes! A scorpion green glows in the dark.
Did you get outside around 10 p.m. on June 30 to see the “Star of Bethlehem”? Venus and Jupiter appeared in conjunction, dazzling us as great double star.
Did you miss it? Mark your calendar for Oct. 26. Jupiter and Venus will be separated by one degree just before dawn. And on Aug. 27, 2016, once again the double star will appear.
From SkyandTelescope.com I learned that this current trio of Venus-Jupiter conjunctions closely resembles a similar series in 3-2 BC that has been suggested as the Star of Bethlehem.
“Fred Schaaf explains, “The first two conjunctions back then were extremely close, the last one separated by about one degree, all three occurred not far from Regulus, and all were similarly high up in the sky.”
