Foundation gives nearly $50K in grants to teachers
The Hays CISD Education Foundation surprised teachers last Friday across the district with the presentation of checks ranging from $500 to $5,000. These grants will help teachers implement creative and innovative educational programs for students.
For more than a decade, the foundation has donated funds to help boost teaching and learning in the classrooms. Teachers from across the district may apply for the funds each fall. The winners are notified in December through surprise appearances by the foundation's board members bearing checks, balloons and flowers.
This year, the foundation awarded 14 innovative grants, totaling $39,910, and 22 mini grants totaling $10,038.

HCISD WELL Clinic expands services, hours
The district, in partnership with CommuniCare Health Centers, is excited to announce big changes at the WELL Clinic. The changes were designed to better cater to the health care needs of Hays CISD students as well as make it easier for their families to access services.
One of the biggest changes is the clinic now offers services to Hays CISD students, both uninsured and privately insured, as well as their siblings under 18. Previously, the clinic only served uninsured students. The clinic also helps families enroll eligible families in Medicaid/CHIP as well as find plans on the Health Exchange.
Another improvement is the new expanded hours of operation, allowing for later appointments. The new hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-7:30 p.m.
Additionally, the WELL Clinic now provides counseling and behavioral health services on Thursdays for both individual and family counseling.
