Don’t come late to First Responder Breakfast

By Kim Hilsenbeck

Members of Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) enjoyed a meal together the AMVETS Post 115 First Responder Breakfast Saturday morning. Post Commander Kendra Krebs said this was the group’s first such event.

Robert Acord from Kyle cooked up breakfast for any first responder who works and/or lives in Hays County. Krebs said the post expected about 150 individuals including firefighters, police and emergency medical services personnel.

“We’re very appreciative,” Sgt. Steve Cunningham of HCSO said, as his fellow colleagues around the table nodded and affirmed their agreement.

Post member Kerman Hammond said the group purchased 31 dozen eggs, 20 pounds of sausage, 20 pounds of sausage links, 20 pounds of bacon along with lots of potatoes. In addition, Krebs said they bought two large bags of pancake mix – each enough to make about 200.

The post spent about $300 for food but Hammond said they also received several donations, including money from Kyle Mayor Todd Webster, food from a former post member now living in Arkansas, and various donations from local businesses.
