Additional rain overnight Friday into Saturday morning caused no additional flooding in Hays County or any of the cities, this according to a Hays County press release.
According to the county, shelters in San Marcos housed 67 evacuees, while the shelter at Lehman High School in Kyle housed seven. The shelter at Wimberley High School housed one person Friday night.
The Lehman and Wimberley High School shelters will close on Saturday. The shelter at Miller Middle School in San Marcos remains open at this time.
According to the release, one person in southern Hays County suffered non-life-threatening injuries when a tornado touched down and damaged two buildings in the Eagle Point subdivision.
Authorities on Saturday safely found a Kyle man who had been reported missing on Friday. The Hays County Sheriff's Office reunited Douglas Wayne Phillips with his family after he had been displaced by the flood and sought shelter.
County and city law enforcement agencies are continuing their normal patrols with extra emphasis on damaged and evacuated areas.
Damage assessment begins in Hays County
On Saturday, assessment teams will begin surveying damaged private and public property.
It is expected to take several days for the assessment to be completed. Property owners that suffered damage should report it to [email protected] if their property is within the city limits of San Marcos.
Those who suffered property damage in the unincorporated area of Hays County, or within the city limits of any city other than San Marcos, are asked to report it to [email protected].
The information sent should include, the property’s address, owner’s name, type of damage and the height of any water within a building.
Current closures of roads and facilities
The Hays County Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 office will be closed Monday because of flood damage.
Hundreds of low water crossings remain closed throughout Hays County. Motorists and pedestrians are cautioned that even if a road does not have water over it, barricades may be in place because of possible damage to the road infrastructure which may not be visible from above.
These crossings will need to be inspected and needed repairs made before they are safe. Barricades should be respected.
