Alice Ilene Cheatham Sheppard (1927-2014)

Alice Ilene Cheatham Sheppard, 86, passed from this life on May 23, 2014 in Austin, Texas. Mrs. Sheppard was born September 16, 1927 to Walter Carl Cheatham and Allie Cly Francis Cheatham. She was married to James E. Sheppard on September 21, l946. They enjoyed a long and happy life together, serving their communities with successful careers in the public schools of Texas. They were both faithful members of the Church of Christ. Mrs. Sheppard was a teacher, counselor, author and free lance writer receiving her B.S. degree from Abilene Christian University in 1950 and a masters in education and Guidance & Counseling certification from Texas A&M University-Commerce.


She is survived by three children:  Claudia Kling and husband, Dwight, of Austin; Phyllis Gonçalves and husband, Antenor, of Itu, Brazil; and Randal Sheppard and wife, Sally, of North Richland Hills, Texas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, one brother,  and one sister-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers-in-law, two sisters and one niece.


Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 28, at 11:00 am, at Elmwood West Cemetery,Garden of Prayer,  5750 Hwy. 277 South in Abilene, Texas. Arrangements are by Harrell Funeral Home of Kyle, Texas.


The Sheppard family expresses their appreciation to the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their care of Alice in her final months.
