Pauline Tom, our Mountain City Montage columnist, is still on vacation. Amy Rae Hilton happily stepped in again this week to share the happenings in the tiny town.
Hello, Mountain City residents and friends,
Bikes, trikes and things that go … time to decorate them red, white, and blue! This Friday we will have our fifth annual Fourth of July parade led by the Kyle Fire Department. Let’s all meet up just before 10 a.m. with our festive transportation as we follow the big red truck to kick off Independence Day! Cookies and water for our neighbors and friends to celebrate our great nation’s birthday. Mower engines ready? You must be a resident of Mountain City to participate in the Lawn Mower Races; one lucky winner will earn one-year ownership of the grand prize trophy designed and crafted by our own city councilman, Roland Garza. Thank you Beth Smith for your generous donation; first place winner will also be recipient of a gift card to one of our local hardware stores.

As we enjoy our celebrations please remember that our four legged family members can be frightened by all of the excitement, especially once fireworks displays begin. Please make a plan for your pet. If an animal is lost or found, feel free to email and we will do our best to help everyone get home safely. Please keep in mind fire safety rules and recognize Hays laws as we work together to keep Mountain City the pretty, safe, wonderful place to live.

Looking for a place to share your talents, time, or just do something fun? Here is an opportunity for you. Please consider being a LMC (Loving Mountain City) Volunteer. You can help out with one activity or all sixteen, any help makes a huge difference! Please email us or send us a message on Facebook and we will get you connected with one of our volunteer teams. Not only do we need leaders for events; we have a team of bakers, a highly qualified delivery team, and a creative team that works on advertisements and new projects. As we gear up to start planning our Fire and Ice festival we hope to have several new volunteers; we hope it is you.

Reminder: our annual Tree Limb Day was moved up to July 27. You must have all tree limbs out on the curb (but not in the street) by 5 p.m. on that day. Trees will be picked up the following weekend.
Here’s to a great week, neighbors — make it something wonderful!
Loving Mountain City,
Amy Rae [email protected]
