Wallace earns bronze for healthy campus

By Kim Hilsenbeck

Wallace Middle School earned national recognition for transforming its campus into a healthy place for both students and staff.  The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded by the American Heart Association and the Clinton Foundation, selected the school for the Bronze National Recognition Award. To earn this award, Wallace improved its nutrition services and physical activity programs to meet or exceed stringent standards set by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by The Alliance for a Healthier Generation,” Principal Brenda Agnew said. “Deborah Wills and Eric Ray (PE teachers) have led this charge with the support of the other teachers on campus. Our goal is to receive the Gold National Recognition in the near future.”

Alliance for a Healthier Generation works to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity and to empower kids to develop lifelong, healthy habits. The Alliance works with schools, businesses, community organizations, healthcare professionals and families to transform the conditions and systems that lead to healthier children.
