Millie Thompson has resigned her County Court at Law Judge position four months after being sworn into office. Reason for the resignation has not been disclosed.
"I hereby resign as judge of Hays County Court at Law #3, effective upon receipt of this resignation."
One county court employee said Thompson left a hand-written letter along with the keys on her desk.
This resignation comes after months of struggle with County Court employees, suing the other County Court at Law Judges and Commissioners Court. This week, Thompson also cancelled her docket in an email that said new court dates would be mailed out.
Thompson’s resignation may impact the outcome of the lawsuit against the judges and commissioners. Since she is no longer a judge, she does not have a basis sustaining an injury, explained Michael Shaunessy, the lawyer representing the judges and commissioners.
The lawsuit’s basis was to get Thompson a court coordinator to serve her judgeship.
After the resignation, it will be up to the Hays County Commissioners Court to find a replacement to fill in the County Court at Law 3 Judge vacancy. All Hays County courts plan to reopen in June.
The Hays Free Press/News-Dispatch reached out to Thompson for comment on the resignation, but has not heard back yet.
