Hays basketball has some of state’s best

Accolades continue to roll in for the Hays High boys basketball team following one of most successful seasons in program history. In March, senior guard Jacob Rodriguez (far left) was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) boys all-state 4A team.

He was also selected to play in the TABC All-Star Game, which will be held May 16 at Trinity University in San Antonio. Rodriguez, along with junior wing Heath Agnew, were named to the TABC all-region team. First year head coach Robert Lucero (far right) was tabbed as the All-Centex boys basketball coach of the year by the Austin American-Statesman, with Rodriguez named first team All-Centex. Lucero also earned 4A coach of the year honors from the TABC. Hays finished the 2014 season in the regional finals, tying the best finish in program history. Joining them are all-district and all region selections (left to right) Stephen Ayala, Heath Agnew, Nathaniel Alvarado, Jake Krafka and Chris Gonzales. (Photo by Moses Leos III)
