Elizabeth “Betty” Cartledge Rogers (1930-2014)

Elizabeth “Betty” Cartledge Rogers, 83, of Driftwood passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014.  She was born on June 15, 1930, in Austin, Texas and grew up with two sisters and one brother.  One of her fondest memories of childhood was riding the train to west Texas in the summers to stay in Terlingua where her father was the manager of the Chisos Mining Company.


In 1953, Betty married the love of her life, Joe Rogers.  They moved to the Driftwood Area in 1976 where they became active members of the Driftwood community.   They were married for 43 wonderful years until Joe passed away in 1996. 


Betty was a homemaker who volunteered at Seton Hospital for 25 years.  She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo with her friends, reading, and bird watching.


She is survived by her; three children, John Rogers, Janet Wallgren and her husband, Jim, and Carol Rogers; sister, Elinor Howie; her grandchildren, Jennifer Hutchison, Sasha Hutchison, Aubrey Wallgren, and John Wallgren; her niece, Lori Linder; nephews and nieces, as well as dear friends, and neighbors.


The family wishes to thank the staff at Brackenridge Hospital for their loving care and for making her final days more comfortable.


A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Driftwood Methodist Church, Driftwood, Texas.Burial will follow at the Driftwood cemetery. 


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Driftwood Community Center or the Driftwood Cemetery Association.
