Still no arrest in Kyle stabbing death of teen

By Andy Sevilla.

More than a week after a 20-year-old man died from stab wounds he sustained at a party in Kyle, authorities have not made an arrest in the case.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday they have a person-of-interest in the stabbing death, but declined to identify the suspect, citing the ongoing investigation.

On March 23, sheriff’s deputies responded to a multiple-stabbing call at a large party in the 100 block of Sunrise Drive, just outside of eastern Kyle, where at least three people sustained knife wounds.

Ulises Garcia died due to his injuries while being driven to Seton Medical Center Hays, officials said last week.

Two other victims, who were transported to the hospital with knife injuries, have still not been identified nor have their conditions been released.

The sheriff’s office said that after arriving on the scene of the incident, they learned the three victims with stab wounds had already been transported to the hospital by private vehicles.

Garcia’s sister, Jessica, said a cousin of theirs had been called out to the party to transport Garcia to the hospital, as his condition was worsening.

Jessica said a Seton representative told her and her two sisters that Garcia had been moved to an Austin hospital at about 4 a.m. March 23, but shortly thereafter an investigator with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office advised them that their brother had died shortly after being admitted to Seton.

Jessica said she and her sisters were devastated by the news and had no one to console them. Their parents had left three days earlier to Mexico, and were alerted of Garcia’s stabbing over the phone.

Jessica said the sisters had only told their parents that Garcia had been stabbed and transported to an Austin hospital, as that was the information they had at the time. The sisters had not warned their parents of what they found out minutes later – Garcia had succumbed to his injuries.

Jessica said Garcia was their mother’s favorite. Having almost died twice before, due to a health scare and later an accident, they hoped Garcia would pull through once more.

“So this time around, (mom) was probably thinking the same, that he would make it out okay,” Jessica said in an interview last week. “And the fact that she actually lost him was horrible.”

The sheriff’s office has asked anyone with information on the case to call its Criminal Investigations Division at (512) 393-7896. Callers can also call Hays County Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 324-TIPS (8477).

Information leading the arrest and indictment of the suspect(s) will be eligible for a $1,000 reward. All calls are confidential and callers will remain anonymous.
