The game between the Lady Rebels and the Lady Chargers got off to a slow start but in the end, the Lady Rebels won by the 10 run rule. The final score of the game was Lady Rebels 10, Lady Chargers 0.
The first two innings of the game came and went without a run from either team. Momentum shifted in Hays’ favor in the third inning when the Lady Chargers’ Cailin Uecker hit a line drive straight at Hays’ pitcher Sara Leal, who reacted quickly and caught the ball.
During the change out, Hays High Coach Aaron Fuller told the Lady Rebels to avoid hitting fly balls and to stay on the ground.

Hays’ left fielder Lulu Arroyo was walked; she would later go all the way to third thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Angelica Arroyo and a single from Maddy Shannon. Arroyo scored the game’s first run thanks to a double from Addie Vayas, which also moved Shannon to third.
Vayas and Shannon both scored off a sacrifice double from Alyssa Martinez. Hays scored two more runs in the third inning bringing the score to Hays 5, Chargers 0.
The Lady Chargers tried to mount a response, but left a runner on third.
With two outs on the board, the Lady Rebels scored two more runs in their turn at bat in the fourth inning. Shannon and Vayas were once more on base when Martinez smashed a triple.
In the words of Yogi Berra, “It was like déjà vu all over again.”
At the bottom of the fourth, the score was Hays 7, Chargers 0.
After making quick work of the Chargers’ three batters, the Hays offense took to the field once again.
This time, Michelle Pesina led the charge with a single. Darian Cortez hit a single, which moved Pesina to second. With two outs on the board, Arroyo hit an inside the park home run, sending Pesina and Cortez home as well. This brought the score to Hays 10, Chargers 0.
After the game, Arroyo said “I didn’t think I was going to make it home, I thought it was going to just be a single.”
Hays will host New Braunfels on Thursday before beginning the playoffs next weekend. The first match against New Braunfels is scheduled for 6 p.m.
