Leos named sports editor

Staff report.

With more than 12 months of news and sports reporting under his belt at this publications, Moses Leos III is now the Sports Editor for the Hays Free Press and its sister publication, the News-Dispatch in Dripping Springs and Wimberley. Both are owned by Barton Publications.

Leos started with sports stories as a part-time reporter, which expanded to news and business when he went full-time. With the addition of a second newspaper, Barton Publications Publisher Cyndy Slovak-Barton realized it was time to bump Leos up to Sports Editor.

“Moses is now handling the scheduling and coordination of reporters and photographers covering four large high schools. He also goes to roughly five to six games a week then writes stories. And he takes photos,” she said.

The promotion recognizes Leos’ ability to effectively juggle multiple priorities and turn in stories on time.

“I’m impressed with Moses’ work ethic,” said editor Kim Hilsenbeck. “He works extremely hard and we wanted to reward him for his efforts.”

She also complimented his relationship-building skills.

“Moses gets coaches and players to share their stories and opinions,” Hilsenbeck said. “He consistently turns in articles that offer not only scores and stats, but the heart and emotion involved in playing, winning and sometimes losing.”

Leos formerly wrote sports for txsportscast.com. He started at the Hays Free Press in 2012. A 2005 graduate of Hays High School, Leos resides in Kyle.
