Bad weather make-up scheduled
The Hays CISD bad weather make up days for this school year are June 5-6 as scheduled on the published school calendar. The district must use both days this year because schools and offices were closed on Jan. 24 and Feb. 7 for inclement weather.
President’s Day, Feb. 17, will remain a student holiday and staff professional development day.
Graduations will not be affected. They will remain as scheduled and seniors do not return to school after accepting their diplomas. Hays and Lehman High School graduations are June 4th. Live Oak Academy graduation is June 5th.
Senior final exams will take place as scheduled to allow them to graduate as planned. All other final exams and end of year assessments will take place two days later than originally scheduled to allow teachers to make up the lost instruction time. No exam will be administered prior to its scheduled date and time.
Hays CISD summer school will start as scheduled on June 10.
The 2013-2014 Hays CISD school calendar was approved by the Board of Trustees and published on March 26, 2012. Bad weather make up days are scheduled so that students can meet the state’s required 175 instructional days in a school year. If the district must cancel school for a day, the first designated bad weather day becomes an instructional day. If the district must subsequently cancel school again, the second bad weather day also becomes an instructional day. If school is canceled for more than two days, the district will either add additional days at the end of the school year or follow Texas Education Agency (TEA) directives.
Bond election coming up
The Hays CISD Board of Trustees will vote this Monday on whether to call for a $59.3 million bond election that would take place May 10. On the bond proposal is a new middle school, new buses, technology upgrades, security improvements and new course offerings in cosmetology, welding and bio-medical. The meeting takes place beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Lehman High School cafeteria.
