The more you read, the more you know...

STAFF REPORT

More than 50 volunteers spread out across the county on Friday to read to more than 1,000 students at 65 pre-K classrooms to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

Part of the Mentors Make a Difference initiative, a United Way of Hays County program, the event aimed to increase access to reading, tutoring and mentoring programs to guide the success of all students and young children. At Hemphill Elementary, volunteers , including Kyle Mayor Lucy Johnson and Kyle police officer Dago Pates, donned red and white striped hats and read to a pre-K class in the Head Start program.  (Photos by Kim Hilsenbeck)
