I’m a resident of San Marcos and have just received notification that a payment dispute between CTMC and Blue Cross Blue Shield TX has resulted in CTMC cancelling their contract with this insurer. After speaking with a BCBSTX representative, I’ve learned that policy holders in San Marcos will now have to travel to Kyle or New Braunfels for emergency treatment. (CTMC will still see patients in need of emergency care, but the policy holder may be held liable for any cost differences -- which could be substantial in some cases).
I am wondering how many other Hays County residents are even aware of this termination in coverage, and are now facing the same situation as I -- do we keep our BCBS policies, or switch insurers. Frankly, I am very surprised CTMC did not make a greater effort to enlist Hays Country residents as advocates in their disagreement with BCBSTX. Cancelling medical coverage for thousands of residents at the only hospital in San Marcos may be a quick fix for CTMC’s current bottom line, but this decision seems to counter their motto of “Extending the healing ministry of Christ” which was printed at the top of my cancellation notice.
