Top: Five HCISD bands stepped up for the first day of UIL Division 4A Concert and Sight-Reading Contest at the Performing Arts Center and all did well, but Lehman High School’s Concert Band was the sole district representative to pull off the coveted Sweepstakes trophy with 1’s in both Concert and Sight-Reading. The Johnnie Green-directed band is shown here posing with their top-showing trophy.
Middle: The Lehman High School Wind Ensemble rolled to a satisfying Sweepstakes showing in the 2014 UIL Division 4A Concert and Sight-Reading Contest, held at the HCISD Performing Arts Center. Director Joey Lucita led his Lobo to a unanimous, six-judge scoring line of “1’s,” the mark for “Superior,” and drew uniformly positive reviews form each of the six judges. On the concert stage, Lehman’s Wind Ensemble performed “In Autumn Skies” by Toshiyuki Kamioka, “Do Not Go Gently into That Good Night” by Elliott Del Borgo, and “La Tregenda” by Giocomo Puccini and Brian Beck.
Bottom: Putting up a perfect string of “1’s” from their six judges, the Hays High School Wind Ensemble performed its way to a 2014 UIL Division 4A Concert and Sight-Reading Contest Sweepstakes trophy. On-stage in Concert, Director Anthony Leflet’s students performed John Phillip Sousa’s “The Invincible Eagle,” Edward Gregson’s “Festivo,” and Alfred Reed’s “A Jubilant Overture.” As with their Lehman counterparts, the Rebs’ claimed their 2014 Sweepstakes trophy by virtue of “1’s” in both Concert and Sight-Reading and a “1” in Marching Contest last fall.
