Board appointment candidates interviewed
Four of the six candidates who applied to fill the board position vacated by Shaun Bosar, District 1, were interviewed by the board of Trustees at Monday’s workshop meeting. Samuel Mungo, Jesus Espinoza, Cassandra Mendez and Michelle Lopez each had 20 minutes at the podium. Trustees asked the same five questions of each candidate. The topics were previous community service experience and how that would benefit the board, the top three challenges facing Hays CISD, how they measure success of the district, how they would handle parent complaints and whether they intended to run for the board position in the May election and if being appointed to fill the vacancy would impact that decision. Edward Lara and Rudolph Pittman were not at the meeting; Lara informed the board that he would not be able to attend. The audio file of the meeting are available on the Hays CISD website.
The board will make its decision about which applicant will be appointed at a specially called meeting Feb. 3.
Bond public meetings
The Hays CISD Board of Trustees will hold the last of three public forums this Monday prior to determining whether to call for a bond election. Attend the meeting and learn more about the $59.3 million bond package. The meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at Lehman High School.
