Walk to cure arthritis
The Walk to Cure Arthritis, an annual event held by the Arthritis Foundation – Central Texas, raises funds and awareness for arthritis. The event features a one-mile and three-mile course, and a Senior Zone offering resources, information and activities targeted to the retired and senior community. Celebrate Earth Day and e-cycle
Recycle unwanted electronics through this Friday, in conjunction with Texas State University’s annual electronics recycling event. Accepted at the sites will be TVs, computers, keyboards, monitors, computer mice, cords, cables, floppy disks, CDs, DVDs, cell phones, batteries, fax machines, scanners, gaming systems, LCD and plasma screens, old circuit boards, radios, stereo systems, speakers and amplifiers. The collection stations are at 1691 Carney Lane at the end of County Road 278 in Wimberley and 100 Darden Hill Road (CR 162) in Driftwood. Both locations are open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. except for County holidays. These items can also be dropped off at the Texas State University Strahan Coliseum North Parking Lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 26, rain or shine. Memorial Run/Walk
A memorial run honoring Phillip Duran will take place this Sunday. All proceeds benefit local nonprofit military and safety awareness organizations. Runner will be given a flag to place at the site where a memorial now stands close to where Phillip was killed. Details and registration information is online at www.phillipduranmemorialrun.com. Check-in time is at 8 a.m., services begin at 9 a.m. April 27 at the Hays County Pct. 2 offices in Kyle.
Hays County Feral Hog Workshop
Attend the Hays County Feral Hog Workshop hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office. The workshop, which will be from 6-8 p.m. April 28, is free and open to the public. Relay for Life
Relayers will go around the clock in the battle against cancer during the 10th Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Buda, Kyle and San Marcos. The Luminaria Ceremony honors the community’s cancer survivors and remembers those lost to the disease. The glowing luminarias will circle the track and feature the name of someone who has battled cancer. Teams of supporters will gather at 7 p.m. at Barton Middle School on May 2 to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones lost and fight back against cancer. Women’s Center fundraiser
Attend the 30th annual auction to raise money for the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center. The center has helped more than 27,000 people in Hays and Caldwell counties. Enjoy Lockhart BBQ, browse through the many auctions items, (trips, jewelry, artwork, gift certificates, collectables and more) and mingle with your friends, all for a $30 admission. The silent and live auctions will be held beginning at 6 p.m. May 3 in the LBJ Student Center ballroom on the Texas State University campus. Free parking provided.
