HAYS CISD — After half of the propositions were denied by voters in May, Hays CISD wants to call another bond election next year.
The Hays CISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Monday to charge the Facilities and Bond Oversight Committee (FBOC) with developing recommendations for a bond initiative to present to voters in May 2022. If the board chose to hold an election this November, the district would only have about six weeks to prepare.
“The more I looked at the timeline that was given to us,” said Trustee Courtney Runkle, “I just don’t think that gives us enough time to really educate people.”
In the May 2021 election, Hays CISD voters denied the allocation of funds for expansions to the Lehman and Johnson stadiums; and denied improvements to the Shelton Stadium and Lehman High School baseball and softball complexes. Lastly, voters did not support nearly $30 million to construct a new administration building at the Central Office location.
All trustees agreed to hold the election in May 2022 to give voters equal opportunity. Hays CISD has not officially announced what all will be included in the bond package.
