Travis Elementary in San Marcos CISD has a new outdoor classroom complete with a rain harvesting design with swales and a food forest planted on berms. The outdoor classroom will provide a space for students to step into an ecosystem where nature is working with minimal invasion. Teachers will be able to teach all subject areas in hands-on opportunities.
Lessons in the outdoor classroom began the first Monday after spring break. More than 45 volunteers spent countless hours planning and securing donations for the outdoor classroom. Over spring break, volunteers spent two days of hard physical labor with tools in hands completing the project.
