It was standing room only on Sunday for the Friends of the Buda Library’s Annual Membership meeting. The non-profit group presented its accomplishments for 2013 and honored library volunteers and sponsors for their contributions. Those in attendance also enjoyed hearing a report from Library Director Melinda Hodges and a keynote from Buda Mayor Todd Ruge.
Among those recognized were Library Volunteer of the Year Jennifer Etheridge for her work on the Booda Halloween event and volunteers Athena Berreles-Luna, Cheyenne Helt, and long-time friend of the library, Bob Banish.
The Friends also expressed appreciation to the Burdine Johnson Foundation, Buda Lions Club, Pedernales Electric Coop, Texas Lehigh Cement Company, and HEB Buda for substantial monetary donations in 2013.
The meeting also addressed the rapid growth of Buda and the surrounding areas creating the need for strong consideration and analysis necessary to the proposal of a library expansion or new facility. The Friends expressed a strong commitment to assisting in all associated endeavors in the coming year and beyond.
Next, the Friends proudly presented their first donation of the year to the Buda Library in the amount of $10,000 for the purchase of books, computers, subscription services, and other much needed items.
At the close of the meeting nominations and elections were held for the Friends of the Buda Library 2014 Board Members. The new board’s first task will be to appoint the slate of officers. Results and more information can be found at friendsofthebudalibrary.org.
