Kyle council member David Wilson filed for reelection Tuesday, though not in time to scare off any challengers.
Laurie Luttrell filed for the Place 4 seat last week, while Wilson kept quiet on his plans for office until Tuesday. Before that, Wilson would only tell the Hays Free Press that he was committed to serving his district, that he enjoyed that responsibility and he would announce his plans at a later date.
After filing Tuesday, Wilson said, “I’m proud of my service and I am interested in continuing some good work that I’ve done in both planning and execution of water issues, transportation issues and quality of management in the city. I want to continue that work.”
Council member Becky Selbera also has kept quiet on her plans for future office, and as of Tuesday she had not filed for reelection to her Place 2 seat, which expires this summer. District 2 resident Bill Sinor, who ran an unsuccessful bid for office last year, has filed his candidacy for the Place 2 seat.
As of Tuesday, Kyle had three mayoral candidates, all of which have previous experience with local elected office. Former Kyle Mayor James Adkins was the first to file for the city’s highest elected office, and former council members Todd Webster and Brad Pickett will all face off in the mayoral race this May.
City Secretary Amelia Sanchez said Tuesday there were no candidacies filed for outgoing council member Ray Bryant’s Place 6 seat, which will also be decided in May. Bryant resigned from office earlier this month, but will remain in place until a successor is elected.
Feb. 28 is the deadline to file for a place on the ballot.
