The Hays Lady Rebel softball program could be seeking a new head coach less than a week after it's second straight UIL state tournament appearance.
On Monday, Hays head softball coach Aaron Fuller confirmed that he will leave Hays for the head coaching position at Rosenberg Terry High School in Rosenberg, Texas.
According to Fuller, he and Rosenberg Terry High School have not come to terms on a contract. While the deal has not been made official, Fuller informed his team on Monday.
Fuller said the move was done in an attempt to be closer to his girlfriend, who lives and works in the Houston area.
"I told [the team] as an adult you have to make decisions in your life that are best for you," Fuller said. "They understood. They had an idea that one of us has to make the move. I don’t think they were too shocked, but they were definitely sad."
Fuller, who has been with the Lady Rebel softball program for four seasons, took over as head coach in 2011 for Joanna Farr. As head coach, Fuller led the Lady Rebels to the postseason in each of his three years. It includes back-to-back UIL state tournament apperances in 2013 and 2014, with Hays claiming the 2013 UIL 4A state championship.
As a head coach, Fuller compiled an 83-26 overall record, 30-9 in district play, with back-to-back 27-4A district championships in 2013 and 2014.
"It’s been a true blessing and honor to coach here at Hays. I couldn’t’ ask for a better place to start my career," Fuller said. "It's not easy leaving. Its bittersweet, but it’s what I need to do."
No word has been given on the search for the next Hays softball coach.
