Thank a Hays CISD School Board member for service

January is School Board Recognition Month and Hays CISD is joining other districts across the state to thank these community volunteers for their commitment and contributions to public schools. Superintendent Michael McKie said the hours spent at the meetings is a small fraction of the hours board members devote to the job.

Hays CISD campuses and students will honor the members of the Hays CISD Board of Trustees this month. The highlight will be a performance by the district’s elementary school honor choir at the business meeting on Jan. 27.

San Marcos High seeks biz partnerships for job shadowing program

San Marcos High School is seeking partnerships with businesses, city and county departments and agencies, and non-profit organizations to offer our junior and senior high school students a job shadow opportunity.

Job Shadowing is an opportunity for students to “shadow” with a working professional in a specific occupation or career of the student’s interest. This experience will assist students with their post-secondary plans for college and career. By bringing students into the workplace, very real and tangible options come alive for them. It creates a critical link between education and success.

You can partner with San Marcos High School by hosting a student on Feb. 3. All hosts will receive additional information about the event and suggested  activities for the day. To become a host, visit www.smcisd.net and click on the quick link: Job Shadow Host.

Are you the next Mr. Rebel?

Hays High School male students interested in competing for the coveted title of Mr. Rebel should get their names on the ballot soon; the pageant takes place Feb. 6.

Proceeds from the pageant benefit Project Graduation, an alternative all-night party for graduated seniors designed to prevent them from drinking and driving or using drugs to celebrate.

Contestants will compete in three categories:

Formal Wear (Anything from white shirt, tie and jeans to tuxedos & evening gowns)

Swim Wear (No speedos, please)

Talent (Anything from blowing out a candle, dancing, playing an instrument, anything goes!)

Permission slips will be emailed to senior parents and should be returned to Mrs. Esther Leal in the main office.
