Rebel tennis springs past Killeen

The Hays High tennis team opened their 2014 spring schedule by defeating the Killeen Kangaroos 13-7 on Saturday morning. 


Battling frigid temperatures was the team’s first challenge of the day.

Cook said her team looked forward to the opposition after two plus weeks of practice time. 


Several matches were decided by tiebreakers, with the Rebels earning a few wins. 


While the team dropped a few tiebreakers, Cook believes they are pivotal in the growth of the program. 


“These matches are the way we see where we are at this time in the season,” Cook said. “It was a good way to test our mettle.” 


Senior captains Grace Ortiz and Antonio Sanchez led the Rebels. Other winners included Ryan New and Zack Curry, Dustin Zimmerman and Tyler Gray, Jordan Villanueva, Haley Butler, James Cruz and Noah Benedict, Lexa Mikulenka and Amrita Thomas, Nick Sanchez and Sydney Harrold, Sarah Ortiz and Hailey Williams.
