Texas Wild Rice Festival
The first annual Texas Wild Rice Festival will be held at Sewell Park April 11 and 12. This special place deserves celebration and we will be doing so with music, art, science, food, local vendors, and free hands-on workshops. This festival is free and funded by community support. “YAKONA,” a film about the San Marcos River, will have its first San Marcos screening on April 12, Saturday night about dark in Sewell Park.
Springs Fest 2014
Join us for the Texas Hill Country’s largest Paddling Festival on the beautiful San Marcos river at Rio Vista Park. There will be kayak & stand-up paddleboarding (SUP)demos from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring your old gear, used gear and never used gear for the Gear SWAP. Join us for one of our kayaking classes and get your paddle on. We’ll be teaching stroke efficiency, rolling and bracing, plus kayak (& SUP) surfing.
Jesus on trial in Manchaca
The death penalty in Texas will be the focus when a local audience gets to decide: would we execute Jesus? Two Christian attorneys, Mark Osler and Jeanne Bishop – one a former federal prosecutor, the other a public defender – will stage a mock death penalty trial of Jesus under Texas law. A judge presides over the mock trial; the audience is the jury. The trial takes place at 2 p.m. Palm Sunday, April 13, at Manchaca United Methodist Church, 1011 W. Farm to Market 1626, Manchaca. Visit ManchacaUmc.org for more information.
