Micaela Zapata Flores, lovingly known as “Mickey”, 65, a longtime resident of Hays County, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at her home.
Mickey was born on April 18, 1948, to the late Juan and Fernanda Zapata in Kyle, Texas. At the age of fifteen she fell in love and married her husband Hector Flores Sr. They were together for 48 years before his passing.
She is also preceded in death by two sisters, Carolina Ramirez, Maria Perez and her older brother Juan Ramon Zapata, as well Daisy, her Chihuahua and bestest good friend.
Mickey leaves her three daughters, Esmeralda Flores (Victor); Esperanza Gonzalez (Daniel); Angela Flores (Annie), her two sons, Hector Flores Jr. (Esperanza) and Joe Ramon Flores; a sister Marta Lyons (Fred) and brother Carlos Zapata Sr.
She was a grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She also has many nieces and nephews whom she also loved very much. She will be missed by all.
Mickey’s hobbies were watching the cooking channels, reality shows, most importantly Jerry Springer. She loved all pets passionately, and after Daisy passed, her new love was Zoe the boxer.
She always helped wherever help was needed and her favorite color was red. She loved playing bingo and going to garage sales. But to her, the most joyful was spending time with her family, loved all her grandchildren deeply and she had grown very close to her hospice caretakers. The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for the tender care they provided to Micaela.
