As part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Job Corps Program, alumni were selected from throughout the United States and Puerto Rico to represent the Job Corps as Heroes. Six graduates were selected from the 125 Job Corps centers, including two from the Gary Job Corps Center in San Marcos. Dr. Mary Ann Gamble graduated from the Gary Job Corps Center in 1993 as an electrician. After working in that field she joined the U.S. Air Force where she became a Korean linguist. Following her discharge from active duty, Gamble attended college and graduated from medical school. She is currently on staff at the Austin Regional Clinic in Kyle. Kyle Police Officer Dago Pates graduated from Gary Job Corps in 2005 from the Corrections and Security Course. He worked with law enforcement in Travis and Hays counties and in 2009 joined the Kyle Police Department as the first motorcycle patrolman.
