Three performing groups from the Dripping Springs High School band earned top ratings at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Festival March 31 and April 1 at Hays CISD Performing Arts Center. The concert and symphonic bands, under the direction of Amanda Petro and John Pearson, began the competition by earning a Superior Rating (highest) from the three judges for their concert and sight-reading portions. The wind ensemble, led by director Derek Woods, performed the following day and was also awarded the highest rating for both the concert and sight-reading portions. In the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Festival, bands are required to perform three pieces for the concert portion and are then given 10 minutes to review a new piece chosen by the judges to perform for the sight-reading segment. The festival concluded the DSHS band’s competition season for the 2020-21 school year.
