Sacred Springs Powwow
The 2014 Sacred Springs Powwow will be held on Oct. 11, 2014, on the shores of Spring Lake, 923 Aquarena Springs Dr. in San Marcos. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with a Native American blessing and native arts & crafts booths. Spend the day and enjoy gourd dancers, native exhibits and youth performances. Concerts for a Cause: Brotherhood of the Girl
On Oct. 4, Central Texas Speedway will host a Concert for a Cause at 5:30 p.m. benefitting the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center. These concerts are a way to raise awareness of and raise money for some of the local-to-Kyle charities that work to make this “simply charming” city an even better place to live. The concert is free but donations are welcome. 100% of the proceeds go to the charity.
Pet Fest
Head to San Marcos Plaza Park (401 East Hopkins Street in San Marcos) for the 12th annual Pet Fest on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with a Dog Jog starting at 8 a.m.).This family-friendly festival includes a Dog Jog 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run, vendor booths, live entertainment, K-9 police demo, pet contests, kids’ activities, a silent auction and more! Bring your pet (costumes are encouraged) or come meet and greet the homeless pets from local shelters and rescue organizations. Admission is free, but it is requested that attendees bring a donation of dry pet food. The event benefits PALS mission to provide low-cost spay/neuter services to dogs and cats. Art Squared Art Market
From 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Oct. 11, local artists will have a market on the Hays County Historic Courthouse lawn. Spend some time with live music and local wares and start getting ideas for your local holiday shopping. The market is always growing so be sure to check back monthly. The event occurs the second Saturday of the month.
