Lehman falls to Weslake in season finale

By Spencer Spilman

It was an emotional night for the Lehman Lobos seniors on Friday as they played in their final high school game against the Westlake Chaparrals.

But the game was one sided from the beginning, as the Chaps offense was just too powerful for Lehman, which fell 63-7 to Westlake at Shelton Stadium.

Westlake scored on big plays throughout the first half and they took a 49-0 lead going into halftime.

One thing Lehman head coach Todd Raymond prided himself and his team on all season is their ability to never quit. Friday night was no exception.

It was exemplified when senior Brett Wagner ran down a Westlake ball-carrier when it looked as if he was going to walk into the end zone.

Raymond said he talked to Chaps head coach Todd Dodge, and Dodge told him how impressed he was in the Lobos heart to keep fighting all game.

In his final game, Jeremy Schilhab once again found his favorite target in Jay Sayles for the Lobos only score of the game.

In the end it was not about the 63-7 score up on the scoreboard, but about the seniors. Raymond was a little emotional knowing the senior class is gone, but he was optimistic about his young team and their years to come.
