Family Movie night:

The Lion King


 On Nov. 14, Lehman High School will host a family movie night in the school cafeteria. “The Lion King” will begin at 6:30 p.m. There will also be food and vendors. Donations of $1 or two cans of food are requested.


 


Phillip Lopate at the Porter House


Phillip Lopate will be holding a reading and book signing at the Katherine Anne Porter Center in Kyle on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. Lopate is the author of four essay collections: “Bachelorhood,” “Against Joie de Vivre,” “Portrait of My Body,” and “Portrait Inside My Head”; two novels; three poetry collections; a memoir; and “To Show and Tell: the Craft of Literary Nonfiction.” He edited the most important essay anthology of our time, “The Art of the Personal Essay.” He directs the program in nonfiction writing at Columbia University.

Tranquility & Unity by Starlight Symphony


Starlight Symphony Orchestra, in residence at the Hays Performing Arts Center, presents “Tranquility & Unity: Musical inspriations through emotions,” an all chamber music concert including works by Mozart, Dvorak, Grieg and more. Directed by Dr. David Oertal. Free admission. Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Hays PAC (979 Kohlers Crossing, Kyle) and Sunday, Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Epsicopal Church (6000-A FM 3237, Wimberley).


 


Butterfly send-off at the Nature Center


It’s about that time again - time to send our queens, monarchs, and fritillaries on their way for winter. On Nov. 15, the San Marcos Nature Center’s resident butterflies will take flight for the winter. Stop by between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and see them before it’s too late. The center is located at 430 Riverside Dr. in San Marcos.


 


Walk to End Alzheimer’s


The 2014 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the signature event of the Alzheimer’s Association supporting caregiver services and Alzheimer’s research, will be held on Saturday, Nov.15 at City Park Recreation Hall in San Marcos, TX.


Walk to End Lupus Now


Join hundreds of walkers for the first Walk to End Lupus Now™ to be held at Gregg-Clarke Park in Kyle and help us take steps to raise money for lupus education programs and research while raising awareness of lupus and rallying public support for those who suffer from it.  Every step you take and every dollar you raise supports the Lupus Foundation of America, Lone Star Chapter and its efforts to solve the cruel mystery of lupus. The walk will take place on Nov. 15 at 10 a.m.

Come out to a great class taught by The Signing Connection (Signing Time certified instructor). Classes are held at 2:30 p.m. on the 3rd Monday of each month at Kyle Public Library. Children 0-5 and their families are welcome.
