Player of the Year: Jeremy Schilhab - Lehman
No player covered by Barton Publications was as dynamic, nor as critical to his team’s success as Schilhab was in 2014. Over a nine game span, Schilhab led the Lobos with 1,679 passing yards, 1,075 rushing yards and 28 total touchdowns (14 rushing, 14 passing). In the process, Schilhab became the first Lobo to rush and pass for over 1,000 yards in a season. The high mark came against Austin High, where Schilhab amassed 471 yards and seven total touchdowns. But his significance went beyond the 2014-2015 campaign. Consider that over three years, Schilhab threw for more yards (3,002) than all other Lehman High quarterbacks combined since the 2009-2010 season (2,685). He also became the first Lobo to throw for more than 1,000 yards in two consecutive seasons, and the first to rush for over 1,000 yards in five years.
Coach of the Year: Doug Warren – Wimberley
After a sub-.500 record in 2013, Warren helmed a complete turnaround of the Wimberley Texans this season, setting the stage for a return to prominence. Under Warren’s guidance, Wimberley finished with an 8-4 mark, capped off by an appearance in the third round of the UIL playoffs. The Texans’ appearance in the regional round was the deepest playoff run since the program’s 2011 state title run under then head coach Weldon Nelms. In addition, the Texans improved upon its fourth place finish in district a year ago. Wimberley finished second in the newly formed 13-4A, Division II with a 3-1 mark.
