Following the arrest of a Hays High student for making threats and planning to bring a gun to school, a Hays High teacher, Ricardo G. Sanchez, 46, was arrested by the Hays County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) for making false alarm or reports, which is a state jail felony.
According to a release from HCSO, Sanchez is employed with Hays CISD as a full-time criminal justice teacher. He is also a Commissioned Peace Officer with the State whose commission is currently held by the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office.
"Upon completion of the Sheriff’s Office investigation, it was determined that Mr. Sanchez caused additional reports and issues for the campus and law enforcement during his classroom facilitation of these rumors," the statement said.
Sanchez, who has been employed with the district since August 2013 according to a statement from Hays CISD, was placed on administrative leave after receipt of information that he engaged in disruptive conduct at work.
"The district is conducting an internal investigation into the employee’s actions and is cooperating with a related Hays County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation," the statement from the district said.
Sanchez remains in custody of the Hays County Jail awaiting magistration.
"Based on the investigation and the information obtained from Ricardo Sanchez, we are confident there is NO continued threat to the campus or its occupants," the HCSO release stated.
