Yvette Soliz named interim Camino Real principal

Yvette Soliz will serve as the interim principal of Camino Real Elementary School, according to a statement from Hays CISD Superintendent Michael McKie. Soliz was most recently the assistant principal of Williams Elementary in Austin ISD and was honored as the 2012-2013 Austin ISD Assistant Principal of the Year. McKie will recommend Soliz to the Board of Trustees at its next regular meeting in August to be hired as the full-time principal at the campus.

Soliz has enjoyed a successful career as an educator for more than 20 years. She began teaching kindergarten in 1992 in Hebbronville, Texas. In 1996, she became a school counselor, earning experience at a junior high school, an early childhood learning center, and two other elementary schools. In 2006, she was named the assistant principal at Williams Elementary in Austin ISD where she has served until joining Hays CISD this week. Soliz has also served multiple times as the fifth grade summer school principal in Austin ISD.

“My goal is to work as a principal on a campus where everyone has the integrity and passion to commit to the achievement of every learner,” Soliz said of her objective for the school.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s Degree in Education from Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas. She earned her bachelor’s degree, majoring in early childhood education, from Laredo State University. She holds certifications in: educational administration, school guidance and counseling, gifted and talented education for counselors, elementary early childhood education, and elementary self-contained education. Additionally, Soliz was selected for and completed the University of Texas Principalship Program.

If the board of trustees approves the recommendation, she will replace Marivel Sedillo, who accepted a promotion in another district.
