An inability to stop the Boerne Champion Charger offense cost the Hays Rebels in a 44-27 loss Friday at Boerne ISD Stadium.
Champion led 7-0 after the first quarter. Hays countered with a Cody Gandy touchdown run to tie it early in the second. But the Chargers responded by scoring 16 unanswered points in the second quarter, giving them a 23-7 lead. A late touchdown before halftime pulled Hays within ten at 23-13.
However, Hays couldn’t put the kibosh on Champion quarterback Josh Green and running back Travis Pospisil. The duo scored the Chargers final three touchdowns, as Champion outscored Hays 21-14 to close out the contest.
