Board approves new sporting goods, class waivers and goals
The Hays CISD Board of Trustees approved the purchase of sporting goods, including athletic apparel, mats, footballs, basketballs, softballs, volleyballs, soccer balls, scoreboards, track and field equipment, tennis balls and rackets, and more for use at all campuses and in all sports. Other approvals include the adoption of the district’s 2015 STAAR performance objectives and goals and four class size waivers — two at Carpenter Hill, and one each at Kyle and Negley Elementary Schools in the second, third, and first grades, respectively. The board also heard information on the district’s current bus retirement procedures.
Trustees took no action on a resolution to give the district’s counselors a pay raise, nor did they take action on the ballot for an open seat on the Travis Central Appraisal District (TCAD.) The counselor pay issue will be on the December agenda once additional information is gathered from surrounding school districts. The board chose not to vote for either of the two candidates who are running for the seat on TCAD because they lacked information about either to make a decision.
Approved purchases with the May 2014 bond money included ceiling-mounted projectors, cabling, and network upgrades.
Pathway Communications was awarded the bid for the installation of ceiling-mounted projectors for all campuses that lack them and the replacement of existing ceiling-mounted projectors at Hays and Lehman High Schools. That project will cost $1,455,798.75. Pathway Communications was also awarded the bid for providing the district with the cabling necessary to provide additional wireless access points at campuses. This portion of the project will cost $59,717.24.
Layer 3 was awarded the bid for district-wide network upgrades, including core and campus equipment. The cost for this project was $2,959,550.40.
