San Marcos Police found a deceased person in a wooded area near a construction site a few blocks from the Texas State campus, now authorities are investigating the case as a suspicious death.
Police responded to a welfare check at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and found a lifeless body about 15 minutes later near a construction project in the 800 block of Chestnut Street, San Marcos spokesperson Trey Hatt said.
The area is being treated as a crime scene in accordance with San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) standard operating procedure when investigating unattended deaths, Hatt said.
Authorities are not releasing any further information at this time, and are asking media and the public to stay away from the area due to the ongoing investigative work at the scene.
