Attempted kidnapping suspect on the run

By ANDY SEVILLA

San Marcos police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man they say attempted to kidnap two girls over the weekend.

A father and his ten and eleven-year-old daughters were shopping at a Wal-Mart in San Marcos Sept. 7, when according to the dad an unknown man approached the girls and offered them free toys, police said in a statement.

The girls began following the man toward a store exit at about 9 p.m. when the 10-year-old shouted to her father informing him that she and her sister were getting free toys, police said.

The girls’ father headed their way to see what was happening, that’s when the unknown man spotted their dad and left quickly.

The attempted kidnapping suspect is described as a Hispanic man who was wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts and a gold necklace. Police say the man also was wearing long socks.

Authorities now are asking anyone with information on the suspect to contact police. Authorities are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was in the Wal-Mart area, located at 1015 Hwy. 80, between 8:30-8:45 p.m. on Sept. 7.

The San Marcos Police Department can be reached at (512) 753-2300 during regular business hours, and at (512) 753-2108 after hours.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released at this time. The police department is not granting any interviews.
