Five games in three days were on the docket for a Hays Lady Rebel basketball team that went 3-2 at the Floresville Tournament on Nov. 20-22.
Leading the way for Hays was sophomore guard and all-tournament honoree Choon-Hee Chae.
Hays’ depth, led by underclassmen Jaden Williams, Jada Finister and Gabby Bosquez, played a factor in the team’s success. Seniors Alexis Delgado and Amanda Benjamin aided the effort as well.
“One thing I like about my team is that I have ten girls that can score,” he said. “Anyone can be a leading scorer. It makes it hard for teams to concentrate on just two people.”
Hays won the first two games of the tournament, but followed by dropping two straight. It included a loss to eventual tournament champion San Antonio Brandeis. Hays finished tournament play with a 71-37 win over Falls City.
Meanwhile, the Lehman Lady Lobo basketball team claimed the bronze bracket title at the San Marcos Champions Classic Tournament on Nov. 20-22.
Stepping up to the task for the Lady Lobos were junior guard Madison Satterwhite, senior guard Lauren Fowler and senior post Starr Rivers.
Lady Lobos head coach Jamie Coy said the three “work well together on offense and defense.”
On the defensive side, Coy said senior guard Angel Cruz showed improvement, along with sophomore guard Crystal Montoya.
Lehman took on several heavy hitters at the Champion’s Classic, which included state ranked Schertz Clemens and Fort Worth Trimble Tech.
But their best performance came in a five-point loss to Killeen Harker Heights.
““We were sound offensively and defensively,” Coy said. “I liked the way the girls performed.”
The Lady Lobos finished the weekend with a 54-48 win over El Paso Jefferson.
