Hays County Food Bank’s 30th Anniversary Bash
Sept. 13 (4-8 p.m.) is the date for the Hays County Food Bank’s 30th Anniversary Bash at Central Texas Speedway. Bands playing include Hot Texas Swing Band, Bruce Fallgren and Blue Ruin Trio. This is a way to raise money for the Hays County Food Bank while celebrating 30 years in the area.There will be a dunking booth (with Kyle Mayor Todd Webster volunteering to be dunked), silent auction of donated items, dinner provided by Bailey’s Burgers and more. Tickets start at $20 without dinner or $25 with dinner. All proceeds go directly to the food bank.
Free Movie Mondays
Everyone is invited to the San Marcos Library on Mondays beginning September 15 for a free showing of a Mystery Movie. Enjoy free popcorn and lemonade with the family-friendly film. Each month, the library will showcase a different movie genre. The Friends of the Library purchased the public performing rights. POW/MIA Festivities at VFW Post 3413 San Marcos
Maurice T. Suttles VFW Post 3413 is having a BBQ plate fundraiser for Homeless Veterans Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and a silent auction 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 6 - 9 p.m, and a raffle. All tickets and auction items will be distributed after the POW/MIA ceremony. Proceeds will go to repair VFW Post 3413 roof. The POW/MIA ceremony will be at 7 p.m. with San Marcos JROTC doing “Missing Man Table”, Mayor Daniel Guererro, Rep. Symphony performances
The Starlight Symphony Orchestra will perform two free concerts in October of well-known, romantic classical compositions. The performance of romantic favorites will include “Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture” by Tchaikovsky, “Wedding Day” by Grieg, “The Planets (Movement 3-Mercury)” by Holst, and a Cello Concerto by Haydn. The Starlight Symphony Orchestra is comprised of all volunteer musicians and the concerts are free and open to the public. Donations are always welcomed and appreciated to meet the expenses associated with concerts and performances. The concerts will take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at Cypress Creek Church in Wimberley and at 4 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center in Kyle.
